clubbed

here's one more film to see asap...

"Now here’s something you don’t see every day. A gritty Britty gangster film with an upbeat you-too-can-change-your-life message. That’s right: make fear your friend, ’fink positively, don’t forget to kick your foes in the goolies and you, my son, will become a real ’ard geezer. Divorced and self-loathing loser Danny (Mel Raido) decides to fight back after life and local gangsters give him a going-over. The setting is Coventry in the 1980s, the suits are sharp, the soundtrack is cool and the first part of the director Neil Thompson’s film is an engaging single-dad drama, but it soon descends into the usual batter-and-blood gangster fare. Still, it’s a good first feature effort from Thompson." from the sunday times (18 jan 09)
